COMP

Compares files or sets of files.

Syntax:

COMP [Data1] [Data2] [/d] [/a] [/l] [/n=Number] [/c] [/off]

Data1 – first file or set of files to compare. You can specify the set of files by using wildcards (*, ?).

Data2 – second file or set of files to compare. You can specify the set of files by using wildcards (*, ?).

/d – displays differences in decimal format (they are displayed in hexadecimal format by default).

/a – displays differences as ASCII characters.

/l – display line numbers for differences instead of displaying the offset in bytes.

/n=Number – compares only the first Number of lines in each file even if the sizes of files differ.

/c – makes the comparison case-insensitive.

/off – processes only files with offline attribute set. You can use also /offline parameter.

Usage:

Running COMP command without parameters will cause prompt for two files to be compared and any comparison options. If you omit any necessary parameters, COMP command will prompt for it.

After ten mismatches, COMP command stops the comparison.

If Data1 contains only path name, COMP command will compare all files in the specified directory to the file specified in Data2. If Data2 contains only path name, COMP command will find with the same name to Data1.

You cannot compare files with the different sizes without using /n option.

Examples:

Compare two files:

COMP c:\first.file d:\second.file /n=14

Compare two directories:

COMP d:\Backup \\netdrive\backup\september
